Backyard Wedding
A summer backyard wedding is perfect for couples who love to be outdoors and want a uniquely sentimental feel for their big day. This particular couple had a proper Scottish wedding. You’d think I’d be super excited about the fact that this is my first Scottish wedding in years. In reality, the fact this was a backyard wedding amazed me. I want a backyard like this. It had all the details of a wedding with the fun of a stag & do. For any couples planning on doing a casual home base setup, this is some great inspiration to work off.
There are so many benefits to a backyard wedding, including cost and convenience. But with those benefits come a few extra details you need to keep in mind and situations you need to plan for. For example, this couple actually sprayed their entire lot with repellant so their guests weren’t eaten alive by mosquitoes. They also had outdoor lawn games set up so they’re guests entertained themselves while the bride and groom were busy with family photos.
Highlights
Whether your backyard is small or sprawling, you’ll want to pay particular attention to where you set up the ceremony. Large trees make for the perfect backdrop and provide shade from harsh sunlight. That’s essentially what these two did. The civil ceremony procession was a bit of a walk from the house, but the location was perfect for lighting. They had a few family dogs roaming around during the ceremony. And since this backyard is also a working farm, many of the family members had chores to do during cocktail hour. Heck even the bride was working up until my arrival. We had to hunt her down to begin bride prep.
Each element of the wedding day happened in a different area of the farm. Most guests walked from one area to another while the older crowd road along in golf carts and ATVs. The reception also included an assortment of college drinking games. It was a unique set up all around.
The second shooter for this wedding was Michelle Paquot.
