Carl’s Catering The Glen
For such a small venue, it’s amazing how many weddings I photograph at Carl’s Catering The Glen every year. Normally all-inclusive venues have multiple weddings happening at any given time. However, those who book at Carl’s Catering The Glen, get the entire place to themselves. That means exclusive access to the manicured lawns and gardens for your guests to enjoy during the function. Throughout the warm seasons, you can take advantage of their stone patio for cocktail hour that lights up at night. But the key feature is their charming Gazebo that hosts some beautiful outdoor wedding ceremonies. There’s not even a need to book an additional photo site since the venue grounds have professionally landscaped greenery and stoned pathways.
It was the perfect setting Krystle and Zack’s little gypsy wedding. No, it wasn’t like TLC’s My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding. These two were too laid back to have that kind of drama on their wedding day. However, it was still a fun experience for my first wedding in this genre. Hopefully, there will be more to come.
Gypsy Wedding
Gypsy culture is a very tight community so it’s rare to get a foot in the door unless you’re already part of. My in was photographing one of Krystle’s bridesmaids’ wedding last year. I will also be covering her maid of honour’s wedding next year. However this summer wedding has so many unique elements.
The most obvious was the wedding dress. The name Krystle gives it away. This bride sparkled at everything she does. Her dress was self made and embellished with gold and silver butterflies. The bride and her bridesmaids sported crystal based jewelry. And all the ladies attending had glitter incorporated into their look in one way or another.
Zack wore a suit that had the same attraction power. It was bright red. His boutonniere was handmade to match the bouquets. As a comic book fan, this wedding did take on a superhero theme as well. From his Batman cufflinks to the battlefield wedding cake.
Ceremony
The wedding ceremony was a sacred crystal ceremony. It worked really well inside the Carl’s Catering Gazebo. Each bridal party member carried in a crystal as they walked down the aisle and laid it in a circle inside the gazebo. The bride and groom married within the circle allowing the crystal’s energy and love of their bridal party to surround them. They burned sage to ward away any demons. However, my favorite was the custom vows Zack recited. The wedding video below features it as the bride gets ready for the wedding
Officially, I was not hired as their wedding videographer. Even so, I’m glad they allowed me to capture some footage of the different elements of their day. These weddings are incredibly rare in Ontario. So I wanted to capture as much as I could.
The second shooter for this event was Michelle Paquot however she did get to take the lead for the portrait session.
