Guild Inn Gardens
The Guild Inn Gardens is one of the most popular wedding portrait sites in Scarborough. It also happens to be only ten minutes from where I live and once of my favorites to shoot at. Not just for weddings, but family and maternity shoots as well. The venue’s garden grounds are huge. Even during the off-season, the historical outdoor museum works as a beautiful backdrop. The permits are a bit steep, but honestly are worth every penny.
The park was formerly the site of an artist colony. It is notable for its collection of saved building relics. These buildings are primarily from downtown Toronto and arranged as ancient ruins. This particular location also happens to have some personal significance to the bride’s family. In fact, I will photograph her father’s wedding here next year. Granted however, these two weddings are very different from each other.
This fall wedding has been on my bucket list for yours. It’s a Halloween Wedding and lands on Friday the 13th. Costumes are mandatory. Everyone and I do mean everyone had to dress up. So I, as the photographer, went as batman. The caterer was Captain Jack Sparrow. He kept putting rum in all the food. The officiant was the Last Samurai. And Twoface is marrying a rag doll. Guests went all out as well which made this wedding even more memorable. Woohoo. So much fun.
However, the highlight for me was the couple’s first look at Guild Inn Gardens. See normally when the bride and groom see each other for the first time, there are certain expectations. For example, the bride would be wearing a white dress. Yet in this case, they had no idea. The couple didn’t really discuss their wedding attire choices. So when the groom turned around, he had no idea what to expect.
The bride is a huge Nightmare Before Christmas fan. Although she didn’t go as Sally, her outfit choice definitely reflected her. It was a purple ragdoll dress that had a switch to light up and twinkle. Her hair was purple to match. And she had an assortment of tattoos on her back that went with her Halloween theme. This theme flowed into the decor of their ceremony as well. They had a mini civil ceremony or rather an elopement in their apartment building. I’ve never met anyone with so much Nightmare Before Christmas memorabilia. And these two custom made a lot of it. This is definitely a unique wedding for the books. I love Halloween.
