Multi-Day Hindu Wedding Masterpiece
Emelia & Shardul have been planning this multi-day Hindu Wedding for a while. They both have big families so this is going to be a very big, very long event. And they’re not even local to Canada. They are based out of California, but happen to have their families living here. They found me through a referral. I actually photographed Shardul’s cousin’s wedding last year which was also a multi-day event. But I suppose most Southasian weddings are.
The events for this wedding are scattered across 3 days. Two were pretty small scale backyard event with close family and traditional ceremonies . While the final day was a big celebrations with even bigger guest counts. This also happened to be one of the best organized multiday Hindu Weddings I have ever done. Every traditional element was planned out and kept on schedule. And as a result, the couple actually got to enjoy the days with their family.
Day 1 Mehndi/Sangeet
This event is pretty self explanatory. It was at a private Airbnb. It’s when the bride gets her traditional mehndi. It’s applied in artistic detail to her hands and feet. This process can take a few hours for the bride. So while she is getting her mehndi done, many of the attending female guests will do the same. Normally this is a ladies event, but the men on the bride’s side did participate. This Mehndi event was also fused with a sangeet as many of the guests had performances prepared for the bride’s entertainment.
The Sangeet was more intense. It is a fun celebration where guests will sing and dance to entertain the bride and groom. Normally these events are pretty mellow. Guests sit on a cushioned floor playing the drums and singing. This was not one of those event. Both the bride’s family and the groom’s family loved to dance. So there was a full night of coordinated performances.
