Multi-Day Hindu Wedding Masterpiece
Parmin & Tandava have been planning this multi-day Hindu Wedding for a while. They both have big families. However, with most of them living internationally, they wanted to keep their local wedding event pretty small. So this is going to be a very small, and very intimate. They rented out a large Airbnb in Jackson Point and hosted everything onsite. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn’t have much information regarding the location since it is out in the middle of nowhere. However, this Airbnb happens to be walking distance from the Ramada Jackson Point Hotel. A hotel I have been doing in-house elopements for since 2023. I think even the couple was a bit surprised that I knew all the local picture spots. And we got to use all of them for this multi-day event.
The events for this Southasian wedding are scattered across 2 days. The first was a small 2 part haldi ceremony. While the final day was a bigger celebration with both sides of the family attending. This also happened to be one of the best organized multiday Hindu Weddings I have ever done. Every traditional element was planned out and kept on schedule. And as a result, the couple actually got to enjoy the days with their family.
Day 2 Haldi
The Haldi ceremony can get a bit chaotic. The Haldi Ceremony consists of friends and family rubbing a turmeric paste on the bride and groom. The purpose is to cleanse the skin and create a glow. Traditionally this ceremony involves “cleaning” the bride and groom in preparation for their wedding day. The bride and groom are not meant to shower after this ceremony. And normally, they would not leave the house or see each other. So in this case, the couple had their haldi ceremony separately at two different locations. That way the key family members could celebrate with both the bride and groom And me as their one photographer, could capture both ceremonies one after the other. This often ends up being my favourite pre-wedding ceremony to photograph. It gets really messy.
