Multi-Day Hindu Wedding Masterpiece

Parmin & Tandava have been planning this multi-day Hindu Wedding for a while. They both have big families. However, with most of them living internationally, they wanted to keep their local wedding event pretty small. So this is going to be a very small, and very intimate. They rented out a large Airbnb in Jackson Point and hosted everything onsite. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn’t have much information regarding the location since it is out in the middle of nowhere. However, this Airbnb happens to be walking distance from the Ramada Jackson Point Hotel. A hotel I have been doing in-house elopements for since 2023. I think even the couple was a bit surprised that I knew all the local picture spots. And we got to use all of them for this multi-day event.

The events for this Southasian wedding are scattered across 2 days. The first was a small 2 part haldi ceremony. While the final day was a bigger celebration with both sides of the family attending. This also happened to be one of the best organized multiday Hindu Weddings I have ever done. Every traditional element was planned out and kept on schedule. And as a result, the couple actually got to enjoy the days with their family.

Day 2 Hindu Ceremony

The Hindu Ceremony was at the same Airbnb. They made a little mandap in the backyard. The parents joined the couple inside the mandap. The ceremony begins with lighting the fire. A Hindu marriage is a sacrament, not a contract. The bride and groom exchange floral garlands similar to how they exchange wedding rings. It expresses the desire of the couple to marry each other. The groom places a necklace of black and gold beads on the bride as a gift to her.

The saptapadi is an important ritual in Indian Hindu weddings. During the saptapadi, the bride and groom have their garments tied together. While joined, the couple walks seven steps together to signify their friendship. This couple also made seven circles around a ceremonial fire, each round signifying a specific blessing they request of the gods. Finally, Sindoor, a red-orange powder, is applied to the parting of the bride’s hair. This symbolizes her new status as a married woman. Woohoo. Now the only thing left is the party. So I will see you tomorrow.
