Old Mill Toronto
Here’s to a sweet elopement at Old Mill Toronto. Normally by now, I’d be embracing fall weddings, but it seems mother nature missed the memo as it still feels like summer. Holy moly you guys, these two were so freakin awesome to shoot. Thank you Christina and Kamil for being so epic and crazy fun. I loved hanging out with these two beautiful people and getting to capture their wedding photos because they were so cool. Despite the having the sun trapped by a strong overcast, it was still very humid. However, these two totally embraced it. Kudos to whoever did Christina’s bridal hair as it did not budge. Mine, however, was a completely different story.
I was so happy photographing this intimate elopement. The Old Mill has tons of unique spots for photo ops. If you’re looking for a romantic, moody, and elegant wedding venue in Toronto, this spot checks all the boxes. Right when you turn into the property you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped into a timeless European town. It has beautiful backdrops wherever you look. Including pretty lookout spots around the outdoor courtyard and stunning chandelier lit hallways indoors.
Candle Lit Ceremony
Old Mill Toronto has a small wedding chapel on site. It’s known for candlelit ceremonies. The first time I did a candlelit ceremony, I was clueless about how to handle it. Cameras are simply devices that capture light and candles, unfortunately, don’t provide much. So while flashes ruin the ambiance and strobes don’t fit into tiny chapels, it really limits your options. Took me a few trial shoots in an abandoned chapel to get the hang of it, but it did pay off. The results of this wedding are proof of it.
They had a sweet little civil ceremony with their families. It was a small guest list of under 50 people. When the couple is able to narrow it down to such a small list, it does make me feel uber special for making the cut.
After the ceremony, we took an assortment of photos around the venue. The Old Mill is the kind of location where you can shoot both your engagement and wedding photos here and never run out of new spots to explore. Also, a big bonus is that if you are having your wedding here, there is no permit required to take your engagement photos on the grounds as well. I wonder if that can apply to an anniversary shoot as well? I would love to come back next year to do a follow-up photo session with this couple during the actual fall when all the coloured leaves come out.
