Steam Whistle Brewing

Bailey and Nick had their small brunch wedding at Steam Whistle Brewing this weekend. I don’t normally consider breweries as formal wedding venues, however, these two weren’t exactly formal. Having a brunch wedding has unquestionably started trending. They have become more commonplace in large cities mostly due to the fact that they impact the ‘ole wallet a whole lot less than the traditional evening reception. Toronto is a great example of this.

For one, a brunch wedding is much more family-friendly. If you are like these two who are looking to have a number of little ones milling about your big day, this might be a route to look into. Not having to sit through a whole long day of activities makes for a much cheerier bunch of children. A brunch wedding also allows for a more casual dress and a laid-back atmosphere. This truly but Bailey and Nick in the centre spotlight as they were the only ones formally dressed for a wedding. They are one thing in particular: Playful.

They had cupcakes, delectable breakfast foods, and mimosas for their early cocktail hour. Seriously, who doesn’t like brunch? I’m not even a morning person, but wouldn’t say no to brunch, especially with a wedding celebration. Especially when my day starts with a welcoming cup of coffee. These two included a full BBQ lunch, and an assorted pudding table. There were little personal touches throughout. The couple’s customized place settings were origami napkins folded to make a bride and groom. Even their ring box made for a sweet keepsake.

Ceremony

The civil ceremony began just passed high noon outside the Steam Whistle Brewing. Bailey’s elegant white dress popped against the tall black barn doors of the rear patio. It was like a light shining in the darkness, which assuredly is how Nick must see her all the time. Following tears and cheers, a flood of family and friends gathered in front of the retired trains of the Railway Museum. We sorted through all the family photos before taking the couple for their private session around the grounds. They had so much fun reenacting dramatic scenes on those trains.

I actually photographed Bailey’s brother’s wedding last year. I love doing repeat families. The familiar faces are the best part. And you already get a feel for the style of shoot they want. This family is very well known for having relaxed candid events. No organized reception, no plated dinner, no elaborate groom prep. In fact, this wedding only had one speech by the bride and groom. The rest was a free for all. Just shoot it as it happens.
