York Mills Gallery
This York Mills Gallery wedding is everything a wedding photographer can wish for. A gorgeous couple, stunning photo location, and spectacular larger-than-life wedding decor that left everyone in awe.
I have been fortunate to work with one amazing couple after another. Perdita and Morgan are no exception. They are both dazzling in their own right, each with a great sense of humour and style. By combining their unique taste and loving personalities, these two hosted an unforgettable wedding that will be remembered for years to come.
Portrait Session
The morning prep and portrait session both happened at the Westin Prince Hotel (now known as the Pan Pacific Toronto). This hotel has a resort style setup including a waterpark inside and gardens outside. As a photographer, I love exploring new venues. So a venue like this is amazing to explore. We completed the couple’s first look and portrait session outdoors. However, the rain forced us to sort out the bridal party and family photos inside the hotel lobby.
As we wrapped our creative session and started driving to York Mills Gallery for their ceremony and reception, I was getting super excited. Each wedding is different due to the venue’s unique setup. The industrial loft is surrounded by brick and beam ceilings that act as a blank canvas to set up the reception of your dreams. I always look forward to seeing what my couples have done with their York Mills Gallery wedding venue.
Ceremony/Reception
They had a simple civil ceremony with a unique jumping the broom element to honour their African heritage. Jumping the broom is a time-honored wedding tradition in which the bride and groom jump over a broom during the ceremony. The act symbolizes a new beginning and a sweeping away of the past. It can also signify the joining of two families or offer a respectful nod to family ancestors.
The reception, on the other hand, was one big party. Their grand entrance led right into an intimate first dance. They had a swarray of speeches from family and loved ones. It was at this point when I discovered Perdita was a bit of a celebrity. She’s a two-time Olympic hurdle gold medalist. Now she hosts All-Round Champion. It’s a reality sports tv show where ten of the best young athletes compete in each other’s sports to find out who will become the All Round Champion. Damn. I’m impressed.
